A new and free special needs trolley for families now available

03 Mar 2016

Lake Haven Shopping Centre is excited to announce a new special needs trolley is available now for customers to hire free of charge. The new trolley has a large front facing seat, padding, harness and can take up to 70kg. There is also no bar across the front making it easier for parents to seat their child or teenager.

Marcelle Proper, Lake Haven Retail Marketing Manager, said: “We received a feedback form from customer Kristie Browne, who asked that the centre consider providing a trolley for families who have children with special needs. Normally these types of special needs trolleys are owned and managed by the supermarkets and department stores, however we considered that this was a service that was needed by our community and decided to provide the trolley on a free hire basis.”

Ms Browne said: “I was really happy when the centre called me as a result of the feedback form. They asked me some specific questions on what the requirements were for families, and they let me know they were going to investigate this further and purchase one. They even asked me about the easiest way to hire it, and how long I thought a session should be. The Lake Haven team was really interested in helping find the right solution. They even asked me to test drive it and provide feedback. I was quite emotional. It’s rare that a big company actually listens and does something about a problem. I’m really grateful.”

This latest addition to Lake Haven Shopping Centre will ensure that the centre meets the existing and future needs of the community.

Ms Proper said: “We try to do a great deal of work in the community to assist those with special needs. Last May, we raised awareness and funds for Aspect Central Coast School, which caters for 140 students with classes in Terrigal, Tuggerah, Toukley and Lake Munmorah. We also run ‘Sensitive Santa’ sessions every year, which have proven to be very popular.”
